REHS Today

Today, REHS continues to serve more  than 1000 students in grades 9 through 12.

All photos on this page were taken January 2006. Click photos to enlarge.

Main Entrance

We begin our virtual tour at the main entrance. Remember seeing this through bleary eyes as you got off the bus at 7:30 every morning?

Enter the school and turn left to look down the hallway, and you'll see that things look pretty much the same.  But if you turn back to face the cafeteria (first photo below), you'll see that things have changed quite a bit.

The Rotunda
(where our cafeteria was)

This was taken standing in the middle of the hallway at the school entrance, looking at what used to be the cafeteria. The two white walls facing the camera are where the glass wall used to be.

A hallway (above) leads to the rotunda (right) and then to the  new cafeteria building. The first set of doors opens to a connecting hallway between the two buildings; the second set of doors is the cafeteria entrance.

The New Cafeteria

The exterior of the new cafeteria, which fills the grassy area formerly known as "Goat Hill." The front of the gym is to your right and the back of the main building to your left, with the connecting hallway visible on the left.

The exterior of the new cafeteria from the opposite side, with the back stairwell of the Annex visible on the left.

On the back wall of the new cafeteria you can see that they now offer a hot food service.
Alas, today's students will never know the pleasures of a microwaved soyburger and a packet of yellow Zingers.

The Middle School

Raleigh-Egypt Middle School was built in 1979 directly behind Egypt Elementary. Today it serves 1324 students in grades 6 through 8.

This photo shows the proximity of the Middle School to the gym, which is on the left.

If you enlarge this photo, you'll see that the building follows the contours of the hill sloping down from the east side of the gym.

Sports Facilities

The new gym bleachers, which sport the school initials, can be extended and retracted with the touch of a button.

The football stadium has also undergone recent renovations, but it still smells of Victory!

The open field behind the school has been converted into a public park with playground equipment, a paved walking trail, a recreation center (right background), and parking off Egypt Central.
