A Magical Time
The 1972-73 school year was a
pivotal one for Raleigh-Egypt High School. It
was the first year that all four grades were
present, and therefore the first year that faculty
staffing levels reached full strength. It was the
first year that the football stadium was used, and
the first year that Raleigh-Egypt presented diplomas
to its graduates.
Both Ernest Chism and John Clayton
(who would soon take over as
principal) were on staff. Mrs. Newton still
ran the Guidance Office. Raleigh was still in
the county, and Raleigh-Egypt was still a county
school. Raleigh-Springs Mall and Wendy's weren't
open yet, so McDonald's and Shakey's were our only
stomping grounds.
This website is dedicated to the
four classes who shared that magical time, and to
the lifelong friendships that have resulted from it.
